Teaching in Jaipur

Description:
"4 positions in Jaipur at a small education foundation that offers afterschool English language instruction and health education to young, underprivileged children in Amer village (about 45 mins outside of Jaipur by car). The foundation believes in whole-person development and emphasizes curiosity and the development of life skills to complement students’ academic training. Women from Amer village are recruited to serve as teaching assistants, which enables them to become income-generators and decision-makers within their families. The foundation welcomes both Hindu and Muslim students and has helped to bring these two communities together, serving as a de-facto community center. Fellows are encouraged to bring their own interests and backgrounds to their teaching. Past teachers have incorporated the study of architecture, nutrition, and environmental studies into their lessons. Fellows are also expected to lead an activity session on Saturday afternoons, such as art, music, photography, or sports. Fellows will work closely with the teaching assistants to plan their lessons and improve their English through weekly journals. Housing, home-cooked meals, daily roundtrip transportation from Jaipur to Amer, and roundtrip airfare to India are provided, along with a small stipend. Jaipur often called the “Pink City”, is an incredibly beautiful metropolis of 3 million people with many famous cultural and architectural sites and a strong handicraft tradition. The commute to Amer takes Fellows through the old city and past the famed Hawa Mahal (“Wind Palace”) and Amber Fort twice daily. Positions begin in early July. "
